Athene enables a wide-ranging and practical basis for implementing a comprehensive capacity management regime as described in ITIL.
Athene provides the infrastructure and all the data collectors necessary to gather performance information across the enterprise into the Capacity Database (CDB) for all leading operating systems and relational databases. It incorporates resource utilization and performance data at system, user, process, command and session levels with user-definable and modifiable granularity (snapshot interval) and periods (windows across the day). It enables users to add any of their own internal time-series (such as specific application statistics) automatically to the CDB. It provides automated processes to update, incorporate, aggregate and archive data within the CDB.
It then provides users with a flexible view of the CDB to define their own Application Views across processes and servers, slice and dice and apply filters and aggregation techniques to review any desired dataset. This can then be analyzed, alarmed and alerted, correlated and regression analyzed, trended and modeled to implement effective performance and capacity management. Multi-class queuing network theory is applied to generate quick and accurate results that can be readily sensitivity tested. Scenarios can be quickly and easily evaluated, reporting on predicted response times and throughputs in the light of different potential situations regarding traffic, configuration and device loadings. Multi-tier solutions can be reflected and bottlenecks revealed using meta-models of the servers across the end-to-end service.
